Tyler Gage is one of those rebels from the wrong side of Baltimore's tracks. Nora is a privileged ballet dancer attending an ultra-elite School of the Arts. Standing in her way, to a brilliant career, is finding a worthy dance partner for her senior showcase.
When trouble with the law lands Tyler with a community service gig at her school, he arrives as an angry man until his skills as a phat street dancer draw Nora's attention. Sparks fly, shoes get danced in. And soon, Tyler sees the opportunity to perform as a chance to knuckle down – "step up" – to a better life.
