Take The Lead

Inspired by a true story. Pierre Dulane (Antonio Banderas), a professional ballroom dancer, volunteers to teach at a poor New York public school. His classical methods clash with the students' hip hopping ways, so he works with them to merge the two styles into a new dance form.

A great banderas performance

And a pretty neat film all round with its title' double meaning and its based on fact background, well worth the see.

Antonio still has it... whatever IT is...

here we have it.... another teacher/mentor movie - but with a dancing twist. Antonio Banderas takes the role of Pierre Dulaine in his stride (no pun intended) but looks mildly uncomfortable delivering some of the more involved lines ... he gives it a good crack though.... but nice to see a man that can move his hips with confindence - and very well...

Banderas is one cool dude taking the heat out of a class of misfits forever on detention in a New York High School. I thought this was an excellent dance movie and now my 15yr old is interested in taking the ballroom dancing lessons compared to be highly interested in Hip-hop. It is motivational for young kids and a excellent reminder for us oldies (late 30's).

Antonio Banderas is really good as Pierre Dulaine and the rest of the cast don't let him down (which is surprising considering Yaya from 'Americas Next Top Model' is a lead role).

The dancing is fantastic and it's a case of the od ol' underdog story but not...

The dancing, the music, and Banderas' charisma keep the tempo upbeat. As a result, the film works better as entertainment rather than as inspiration...

Things hold together longer than they would have without Banderas' commanding, committed performance...

As a drama it's only so-so, and all those wanting the true story should watch documentary Mad Hot Ballroom instead, but the energy and rhythm keep it moving along gracefully...
