The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Australian drag-queen, road-trip classic about three friends (two drag queens and a transsexual) who head to Alice Springs to put on a stage show extravaganza. Stars Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp.
On their way to perform a cabaret gig for a hotel resort, Anthony (Weaving), Adam (Pearce) and Bernadette (Stamp) are constantly halted by odd characters, beautiful landscapes, an unreliable vehicle (named Priscilla) and a heavy amount of prejudice. The film is a comedic cultural clash that destroyed the Australian box office and won the Oscar for Best Costume Design.

pressA decade on, Stephan Elliott's drag-queens-in-the-Outback comedy remains the cuddly, something-for-everyone empress of Aussie camp.

Roger Ebert
pressIt's too bad that the requirements of plotting require movies like this to crank up the event count, when actually what works is just the daily minutiae of Bernadette's life.

Empire Magazine
pressThose who find men in feathers inherently divine will have a high old time here, and there are enough hilarious cinematic moments for the gob-smacked rest.
