The Drop

The late James Gandolfini stars alongside Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace in this crime drama involving murder, a scam artist and a missing pit bull. Written by Dennis Lehane, the crime writer behind Mystic River and Shutter Island.

Bob Saginowski (Hardy) is trying to steer himself off the criminal path when he is sucked back in by a heist gone wrong. The blunder results in a killing and the loss of a much contested pitbull. Nadia (Rapace) becomes involved when she finds the wounded puppy outside her home. From Belgian director Michaël R. Roskam (Bullhead).

Tom Hardy gives another terrific performance as a Brooklyn bartender in writer Dennis Lehane's adaptation of his own short story.

The Drop putters along in a dozy register, less a simmering pot than a cooling one.

A tough, tense, and entirely absorbing thriller.

The entire film vibrates with understated tension, but almost never raises its voice above a hissed threat or a discomfited mutter.

Gives us one more chance to salute the formidable talent of a remarkable actor [James Gandolfini] who died in June 2013 at age 51.

The picture belongs to Tom Hardy, whose astonishingly sensitive performance even the great James Gandolfini steps gently around.

The cute puppy almost steals the show but Hardy is ace and quite the watchable chameleon in his surprising switch from lovable dumb ox to cannier-than-we-thought.

This film is a must see for any red blooded man. Blew me away.Tom Hardy is the man. This film looks as slick as it feels. Could have done with a few more shoot ups and a few more chicky's but on the whole this film is where it's AT.

I went to see this because it was James Gandolfini's last film before he died :( I loved the Supranos and was so sad to hear when he passed. He is the best things about this film in my opinion he steels the show from Tom Hardy who seems like he is trying to hard. The plot is a bit cliche and over drawn which makes it hard to really care about the...

When the reviewer wrote 'Tom Hardy with a puppy' I rolled my eyes and though 'no, no no - not my kind of film'. However I was pleasantly surprised. The direction is really what saves this from being a bag full of cliches and leaves you pondering a question you might not otherwise ever think of.

The pace of the film is very stable, sometimes even a little draggy. Tom Hardy is on his way to Oscar.

Beautifully directed and filmed. The colours, tone, lighting and pace are well done. All of the cast are good. The storyline turns out a moral question which is a stunner.
