It’s almost reassuring in 2015 to still be able to walk out of a cinema and ask aloud and with feeling: How on Earth did that get made?

Ultimately misses the mark.

Beginning with a newsreel introduction to set the scene which tends to confuse rather than enlighten the viewer, but never the less fails to cover the inadequacies of a rather standard plot. - Good guy, capable of bad things is drawn back into the game to right wrongs, fight corruption and save his lady. The script often verges on the farcical, particularly...

good action sequences - acting and dialogue not so much. Idris we don't really see until 3/4 way through. Would have better going direct to DVD. Seems more like Segal or Stallone territory.

Unexpected decent!

This movie surpassed my expectations of it. Indeed the story wavered throughout and the acting was lackluster at points, but the technical action scenes carried the film to be an enjoyable experience - it was a fun movie if you did not get caught up in the, at times, unreasonable story. Thanks Flicks!

A bit of fun

But not much more. The plot devices could be seen coming a mile off, and the main bad guy's acting was incredibly wooden. But with a bit of violence and a some guns and some fire and stuff, in the end it was fun. Just don't take it too seriously!

Not so good

Why should we care that the guy who got paid to kill some one on a no question asked bases is now being targeted

Pfft.

Where to start… the hackneyed script? The tired character tropes? The wooden acting from an otherwise excellent ensemble cast? Perhaps the lack-lustre camera and editing, devoid of any real style, substance or originality? Hard to know where to begin, really.. although I have to admit, I was terribly impressed by the lengths Sean Penn must have had to go to...

Better than Taken

Such a good movie! Sean Penn still has it. Although the ending was a tad unrealistic.

...a thoughtful, provocative thriller replete with richly crafted characters, gripping set pieces, and an underlying moral drive about the very nature and consequences of violence.
