Gandolfini comes in from left field and provides a character with dimensions and surprises, bringing out the best in Roberts.
Full reviewBrad Pitt and Julia Roberts attempt to take a cursed gun called 'The Mexican' back across the border in this 2001 crime comedy from director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl).
Jerry Welbach (Pitt), a reluctant bagman, has been given two ultimatums: The first is from his mob boss to travel to Mexico and retrieve a priceless antique pistol, known as "the Mexican"... or suffer the consequences. The second is from his girlfriend Samantha (Roberts) to end his association with the mob. Jerry figures alive and in trouble with Samantha is better than the more permanent alternative, so he heads south of the border.

Full reviewThis hokey-jokey comic thriller doesn't add up to the proverbial hill o' beans, but it's an engaging curio all the same.
Full reviewIn stealing the movie from its attractive co-stars, Mr. Gandolfini does them a favour by allowing them to relax.
Full review(It) does have its sharp moments, many of which involve the edgy exchanges between Gandolfini and Roberts, but it is too often stretched out and overweight.

Full reviewGore Verbinski... takes the odd route again by separating his star attractions for most of the film. As dumb ideas go, that one is a Hall of Famer.
