The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption

(1994)

Fear can hold you prisoner, hope can set you free.

In this adaptation of a Stephen King short story, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is an innocent man in Shawshank Penitentiary, jailed for life for the murder of his wife. He forms an unlikely friendship with fellow lifer Red (Morgan Freeman), as he adjusts to a future behind bars.... More

The film is universally loved and it’s easy to see why. It’s a classic battle between good and evil that avoids cliché while making the concept of hope seem so powerful and liberating that only those with a heart of stone won’t be moved. Every performance is fantastic and the finale is impossibly uplifting, a worthy ending to a movie that has proven nearly impossible to dislike.Hide

It had a nice story that wasn't what so many movies have done before. It also showed that no matter what the circumstance, hope can still be alive.

It's not a great movie despite what many people say. It had great emotional impact for many but I didn't get that "you had to be there" kind of feeling. Instead, I thought the feelgood factor very much depended upon one twist in the plot.

Excellent movie! I don't usually like dramas except forest gump but this movie is definately the best movie I've ever seen.

Great film, no doubt, but number one? i think that is a bit of a stretch....

Has to be one of best movies, so many people say it is their favourite, and as far as a story line, and a powerful message in the movie for 'not giving up hope', you can't go past it. Rightfully best story and best movie.
