So deft, funny, and light-handed it may not be until the film’s shattering final image that you realize you’ve been watching one of the most lived-in portraits of an alcoholic ever made.
Full reviewThe directorial debut from Steve Buscemi (also starring and writing the screenplay). Co-stars Chloë Sevigny and Samuel L. Jackson.
Tommy (Buscemi) has lost his job, his love and his life. He lives in a small apartment above the Trees Lounge, a bar which he frequents along with a few other regulars without lives. He gets a job driving an ice cream truck and ends up getting involved with the seventeen-year-old niece of his ex-girlfriend. This gets him into serious trouble with her father.

Full reviewAs a tender and wise mediation on missed opportunity and the all too easy temptations of the demon drink, its lent depth and compassion by a first-rate supporting cast, from which Buscemi's old cohort Boone Jr manages to especially stand out.
Full reviewSteve Buscemi, who plays Tommy and also wrote and directed the film, knows about alcoholism from the inside out and backward, and his movie is the most accurate portrait of the daily saloon drinker I have ever seen.
