A devilishly handsome and rugged young man (Nicolas Cage) charms a sweet girl (Deborah Foreman) from a rich part of town in Emmy-nominated director Martha Coolidge's 1983 romantic comedy.
However, he's from a rough part of the city and she's in the wealthy valley. When their worlds collide, it doesn't bode well for those in her immediate social circle. But their connection cannot be denied, and as they attempt to stay together, it reveals more about her shallow, trend-obsessed friends.
Impressively, Andrew Lane and Wayne Crawford wrote the script in just ten days.

Their blazing romance, which shocks her high-school friends, ultimately becomes too socially threatening for Foreman and she cuts it off. For a change, there aren’t any cartoon problem adults on hand as there often are in these pictures.

A harmless version of punk subculture hits the multiplex (look, it was way better than that Quincy episode), with director Martha Coolidge putting together a solid soundtrack — even though she had to drop songs from perhaps more authentic acts like the Clash, because they couldn't secure the rights.
