Waterworld

Kevin Costner leads this 1995 post-apocalyptic blockbuster set in a future where the polar ice caps have melted, causing the world to be submerged in water. The Mariner (Costner), a lone mutant, leaves his solitary existance to help a woman and a young girl flee from evil forces and find dry land.

Before Titanic, Waterworld was the most expensive movie ever made with a reported budget of $175 million USD. Kevin Costner personally funded an eighth of the cost.
