How to watch After the Hunt in New Zealand
After the Hunt is screening exclusively in New Zealand cinemas from October 16, 2025.
What is After the Hunt about?
“It happened at Yale…” the introductory title card tells us, where senior philosophy professor Alma Imhoff (the toothy gal from Mystic Pizza) is shocked when her colleague Hank is accused of sexual misconduct with a student. If that wasn’t bad enough, the resulting scandal threatens to uncover some of Alma’s own dark secrets from back in the day. So, it’s a #MeToo movie of sorts, with a great cast.
The cast of After the Hunt
Julia Roberts is Alma Imhoff; Ayo Edebiri is Maggie Resnick, Alma’s student and protégée; Andrew Garfield is Hank Gibson, Alma’s colleague and friend; Michael Stuhlbarg is Frederik Imhoff, Alma’s psychiatrist husband; Chloë Sevigny as Dr. Kim Sayers, the university’s student liaison and Alma’s friend; with Burgess Byrd, Christine Dye, Thaddea Graham, Ariyan Kassam, Lío Mehiel, and Will Price rounding out the impressive ensemble.

Why we’re excited about After the Hunt
Well, the critical consensus is…not really a consensus? Responses have been mixed, with the performances (Roberts’ turn in particular) getting strong praise, but the film as a whole being labeled as muddled and self important. But that’s the thing about Guadagnino: he tends to polarise audiences and critics alike. That’s a good thing, IMHO. Controversy generally means an artist is doing something interesting instead of just cleaving to the established route, so we’re pretty keen to see what ol’ Luca has to say with this one.
