How to watch What We Hide in New Zealand

Two sisters fight to stay together after their mother’s death in this new drama.

Apparently somebody decided to make a depressing version of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, and the easiest way turned out to about to be killing mom instead of the babysitter.

How to watch What We Hide in New Zealand

What We Hide is screening in New Zealand from August 8, 2025.

What is What We Hide about?

Written and directed by Dan Kay, What We Hide sees two sisters struggling to stay together in the wake of their drug addict mother’s death by overdose. The pair, Spider & Jessie (which was the film’s original title before a quick pre-release change) decide to hide the body and conceal her passing, not wanting to risk being split up in the foster care system. Things get even darker when their mother’s scumbag dealer comes sniffing around, along with a concerned cop. And we proceed from there.

The cast of What We Hide

Mckenna Grace is Spider; Jojo Regina is Jessie; Australian Stranger Things star Dacre Montgomery is Reece, the drug dealer; Malia Baker is Alexis; Jesse Williams is Sheriff Ben Jeffries, who investigates the case; Forrest Goodluck is Cody; and Fernanda Andrade is Jen.

Why we’re excited about What We Hide

It’s actually hard to say. The trailer looks good and the cast is great, but there’s very little out there about this one. Not one review I can find; not even a Wikipedia page. There doesn’t seem to be much buzz building around it, but you never know—we could be in for a sleeper hit?

Mckenna Grace is one of those spookily talented child actors, and you could see this as her first foray into more mature roles. So it’s definitely interesting from that perspective, but really we’re going to have to reserve judgement on this one.
