Super Mario Bros. made over a billion dollars at the global box office, so it was inevitable that the adaptation of Nintendo’s beloved flagship franchise would be getting a sequel. And here it comes!

What is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie about?
Who can say? There’s not even an official synopsis yet. It is, of course, the sequel to Super Mario Bros., which ended with Mario and Luigi setting up shop in the Mushroom Kingdom as plumbers, leaving the door open to further adventures. And it’s an adaptation of the 2007 Wii game Super Mario Galaxy, which follows a pretty standard “rescue the princess” plot. But in space. I so guess we’re going to space? Which we could have guessed from the title, to be honest.
The cast of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Most of the key cast from the first film are reprising their voice roles, including Chris Pratt as Mario, the Italian-American icon, plumber, and interdimensional hero; Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and object of affection; Charlie Day as Luigi, Mario’s timid younger twin brother, likewise a plumber; and Jack Black as Bowser, King of the Koopas, ruler of the Dark Lands and gneral big bad/evil overlord.

Why we’re excited about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
I’d guess that if you’re a kid or a former Nintendo kid, this is manna from heaven. And lord knows there was a big audience for the first one. Everybody’s favourite mushroom-hopping plumber (who doesn’t seem to do much plumbing?) will return.
