History of UEFA Champions League

The UEFA Champions League began in 1955, called the European Cup. During this first historic season, sixteen teams participated. Real Madrid ruled the tournament, winning five consecutive seasons before arch-rivals Barcelona kicked them from the throne in the 1960-61 season.
