Romantic drama from Indian master filmmaker Satyajit Ray. A Calcutta newspaper publisher asks cousin Amal (Soumitra Chatterjee) to entertain his bored wife Charu (Madhabi Mukherjee). Tensions between the pair threaten to make their relationship more than strictly professional. Based on the novella Nastanirh by Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore, Charulata was digitally restored and screened at Cannes 2013.
