A favor for an old drinking buddy leads Hank and
... More Britt, down a rabbit-hole of corruption in deceptively sunny Ocean Beach.LessIn this comedy-drama series, ex-cop and recovering alcoholic Hank Dolworth (Donal Logue, Gotham) partners with his best friend, former criminal Britt Pollack (Michael Raymond-James, Once Upon a Time), in an unlicensed private investigation business in Ocean Beach, California.
Well-received by critics, Terriers appeared on several Top 10 lists in 2010 and was nominated for Outstanding New Program by the Television Critics' Association, but was cancelled by FX after just one season.
LessTerriers is only a little bit dark, a whole bunch of intriguing and plenty funny.
Full reviewTerriers is a wonderfully well-conceived, well-made and well-played series...
Full reviewTerriers hangs rich people out to dry, makes fun of yuppie affectation and seeks as much to position itself on the right side of the class war as it does to amuse us. It succeeds amiably on both fronts.
Full reviewEvery so often, a show arrives and instantly feels lived-in, like a comfortable old couch... FX's Terriers is one of those shows, beautifully torn and frayed from the get-go.
Full reviewIt's perfect neo-noir for television - a serial drama with the legs of a procedural.
Full reviewTerriers, a show about private detectives, but really a show about charming characters and zippy dialogue in a sunny locale, deserved so much better than the one season and a cloud of dust that it got.
Full reviewOpting for a scruffier, darker comic tone to fit its Raymond Chandler-esque lead, it made for addictive viewing.
Full reviewEven though it would seem that every single possible private eye, buddy and private eye/buddy scenario has already been done -- and probably done to death -- along comes Terriers and everything old is new again.
Full reviewTerriers: Season 1 is available to stream in New Zealand now on Disney+.
