Umbrella Academy: Season 2

Umbrella Academy: Season 2

Umbrella Academy: Season 2

Oscar nominee Ellen Page (Inception) leads a dysfunctional band of former child superheroes in this 10-episode Netflix series. Based on the comic book series written by My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way.

Five (Aidan Gallagher) warned his family that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse - at the end of season 1 - was at best risky. Right he was, the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960.

The Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins.

It shouldn’t work—but The Umbrella Academy barrels along fast enough that all its disparate pieces mostly stay together. Fans will love it.

Once again, full of breathtaking visuals and stultifying characters.

Employing dry Wes Anderson-style humour and end-of-the-world exploits worthy of Heroes, the second season of The Umbrella Academy is just as – if not more – wacky than the first.

The best thing that can be said about season two, then, is that it is that same show [as season one] but good. Not perfect, certainly, but if Sir Reginald Hargreeves has made any of his terrible lessons abundantly clear, it’s that people will continue to improve if you repeatedly tell them that they’re bad and you don’t love them.

After an intriguing but somewhat spotty debut in 2019, all signs point to series creator Steve Blackman and the rest of the Umbrella Academy team taking critiques on board to make a second season with a tighter story, cleaner execution, stronger performances, and even better world-building.
