Director Mika Kaurismäki (Moro no Brasil) first heard Brazil's choro music as a boy in his native Finland. Now, in his second film about Brazil's music, he explores the much loved choro - a fusion of European dance melodies, African rhythms and Brazilian flourishes which predates the samba. Widely considered to be Brazil's jazz, choro offers musicians an opportunity to improvise and display their virtuosity.
