In the end, there's not enough of distinction or substance to make this absurdist family comedy with a haunted-house angle feel like more than a short's worth of ideas stretched too thin.
Full reviewIn this Sundance hit horror comedy, a mother's psychological wounds manifest themselves as a ghost she believes is haunting her. Written and directed by and co-starring Bridey Elliott, the film takes place over a single night in the family's Connecticut home and co-stars Bridey's real-life family.
"Actor Ted Reynolds (four-time Emmy winner Chris Elliott, Groundhog Day) and Clara (Paula Niedert Elliott), his scattered, homemaker wife, welcome their twenty-something daughters (Abby and Bridey Elliott) — a pair of former child stars — back to their Connecticut home so Ted and the girls can be in a family-themed photo shoot for an airplane magazine. While celebrating their dog’s birthday with amiable drug dealer Poo Poo (Haley Joel Osment), the vodka-loving clan’s banter becomes increasingly bitter and petty, and they devolve into a drunken mess. Meanwhile, a specter only Clara can see urges her to confront her self-centered family." (Sundance Film Festival)

Full review... pitch black to the point that many will find it unbearable. I say stick with it; if nothing else, the film is a work of great daring.
Full reviewInfrequent actress Paula Niedert Elliott delights in the titular role with a quirky, sympathetic performance that gradually reveals the extent of Clara's psychological wounds.
