Cooking lies at the centre of the two parallel stories that make up this Brazilian drama, both featuring a country simpleton's skill at using cuisine to survive. Audience Award winner at the Rio de Janeiro Film Festival 2007.
One story shows Nonato (João Miguel) arriving penniless in a city where he uses his culinary abilities to work his way up through the restaurant business. In the other, years later, Nonato is in prison wher experiences a similar rise through the prison hierarchy thanks to the same set of skills. As the film unfolds the connections between the two stories become apparent, showing that there's more in common between them than just some tasty eating.
