An Australian-Italian teenager navigates her complicated family life and self-identity in director Kate Woods' adaptation of Melina Marchetta's coming-of-age novel. Winner of five awards, including Best Film, at the 2000 Australian Film Institute. More

In her final year of school, Josie Alibrandi (Pia Miranda) runs into a car-crash of social problems. Her relationship with her single mother (Greta Scacchi) is on the rocks, she's copping racial slurs from a fellow student, two different boys present two different romantic woes, and her absent father (Anthony LaPaglia) suddenly appears in Josie's life. Fortunately, her Nonna (Elena Cotta) is always by her side.
