AMC+ is launching in Aotearoa: here are the biggest shows to expect

We know, we know: you’re already paying for too many different streaming services. But with the expansion of AMC+ into New Zealand, Kiwi TV fanatics are getting plenty of bang for their buck: namely, some of the streaming world’s most exciting new shows and access to Shudder and Acorn to boot.

From the US TV channel that brought us Breaking Bad and Mad Men, AMC+ has announced the launch of its premium streaming bundle into Aotearoa, available now at this link with a special offer of a one-year subscription for $7.99 a month. That’s a 20% discount on the standard monthly price of $9.99 per month, making your Shudder and Acorn binges cost but a few bucks a month.

Starting with a week-long free trial, you can experience “a wide selection of critically-acclaimed, award-winning scripted and unscripted series”, including all-time faves like Mad Men and whatever’s next from The Walking Dead. The original programming on AMC+ is nothing to sniff at, either, with the Navajo western Dark Winds maintaining a perfect 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Australian vampire series Firebite getting some rave reviews.

Speaking of vampires, this weekend’s premiere of TV adaptation Interview With The Vampire has come just in time. It’s a sensuous new take on an immortal friendship (romance?) from the Anne Rice canon. “Let the tale seduce you”, GoT star Jacob Anderson invites new AMC+ subscribers, “just as I was seduced.”

If you’ve ever considered forking out the money for Shudder or Acorn, getting AMC+ could be the clever move that gives you even more buzzy content to boot.

The platform’s general manager Courtney Thomasma emphasised timeliness for potential new subscribers in a press release: “We are thrilled to bring our slate of critically acclaimed original series directly to audiences in New Zealand for the first time, and look forward to kicking off with the global premiere of our newest franchise Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire this Sunday.” Time to sink your teeth in?
