What is Blue Beetle about?

The comics version of Blue Beetle is a little complicated, but here’s the film’s official synopsis: “Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the super hero Blue Beetle.”

The cast of Blue Beetle

Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña is our titular hero, making his very first big screen appearance. Bruna Marquezine is love interest Penny, Raoul Max Trujillo is villain Conrad Carapax, Susan Sarandon is mysterious (and probably villainous) billionaire Victoria Kord, Damian Alcazar and Elpidia Carrillo play Jamie’s parents, with Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, and Harvey Guillen as Dr. Sanchez.
