The action is hot on the ice and off in this queer Canadian sports romance.

Love will win out! Even in the brutal, bridgework-ruining world of professional ice hockey. That’s the theme underpinning this queer Canadian romance series.

Heated Rivalry is streaming in New Zealand exclusively on Neon right now.

What is Heated Rivalry about?

Created, written, and directed by Jacob Tierney (Letterkenny and Shoresy, so you can be sure he knows his hockey) and based on the Game Changers series of novels by Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry follows the years-long rivalry and romance between Asian-Canadian hockey player Shane Hollander and Russian-born Ilya Rozanov.

From their first secret fling in their rookie season to their fierce competition on the ice as captains of two acrimonious teams, we follow the pair as they—hopefully—figure their shit out and realise they’re meant for each other.

Why we’re excited about Heated Rivalry

Putting aside the fact that every real world hockey player I’ve ever met looks like their head is in urgent need of panel-beating, this looks fun as hell. Once I saw that Jacob Tierney was running the show, this became a must-see. Expect ribald bro-comedy and heartfelt romance in roughly equal proportions.
