How to watch Stick season 1 in New Zealand

Comedy is at the fore in this new golf series.

Not to be confused with the cool 1983 Elmore Leonard crime novel of the same name (Burt Reynolds starred in and directed an adaptation in 1985, if you’re curious), this new series is about golf. It’s still cool, though No, really! Read on…

How to watch Stick season 1 in New Zealand

Stick season 1 is streaming in New Zealand exclusively on Apple TV+ from June 4, 2025. You’re getting three episodes at once, with the remaining seven dropping weekly.

What is Stick season 1 about?

Redemption! And golf.

Stick follows the fortunes of washed-up golf pro Pryce Cahill. Having lost his job at a sporting goods store and seen his marriage go down in flames, he pins his hopes on a troubled 17-year-old golf prodigy (oh, those moody putter punks…) who could make it all the way to the top. With the right mentor, of course. What follows is, according to what the publicity materials tell us, a feel good comedy about found family and second chances. Yep, sounds about right.

The cast of Stick season 1

Owen Wilson is Pryce Cahill, our over-the-hill hero; Peter Dager is Santi Wheeler, his newfound protégé; the high priest of modern misery, Marc Maron, is Mitts, Pryce’s frumpy old caddie and the font of world-weary wisdom; Mariana Treviño is Elena; Lilli Kay is Zero; Judy Greer is Amber-Linn; Timothy Olyphant is Clark Ross; and Ryan Kiera Armstrong is Angela. Plus, expect cameos from golf legends Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, and Wyndham Clark, if that does anything for you.

Why we’re excited about Stick season 1

On the one hand: golf, the world’s most pointless sport. On the other, a very charming Owen Wilson playing an affable loser, Marc Maron dispensing cynical but spot-on advice, and a redemption motif. While you couldn’t get us to watch an actual golf tournament under threat of waterboarding, we’re definitely watching this.
