How to watch The Conjuring: Last Rites in New Zealand
Ed and Lorraine are at it again.

Well, it’s been a long, dark road, but after 12 long and factually dubious years, the on screen adventures of demon-busting duo Ed and Lorraine Warren is coming to an end. Allegedly.

What is The Conjuring: Last Rites about?
Two con artists and their marks, basically.
Eh, the movies are fine. The real life Warrens, not so much. But focusing exclusively on the fictional, this latest and possibly last (Blumhouse are hedging their bets) outing for married exorcists Ed and Lorraine sees the pair of poltergeist pesterers investigate a demonic attack on Jack and Janet Smurl and their family, which was a whole thing. But plot details are sketchy, and how much the film resembles the real events or the book the Smurls and the Warrens quickly co-authored in the mid ’80s is anyone’s guess.
The cast of The Conjuring: Last Rites
Vera Farmiga is clairvoyant and trance medium Lorraine Warren; Patrick Wilson is her faithful husband Ed Warren, self-described demonologist; Mia Tomlinson is Judy Warren, Ed and Lorraine’s daughter; Ben Hardy is her boyfriend, Tony Spera; Rebecca Calder is Janet Smurl; Elliot Cowan is Jack Smurl; and Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, Molly Cartwright, and John Brotherton are their kids, Heather, Dawn, Shannon, and Carin.

Why we’re excited about The Conjuring: Last Rites
In an ideal world the final movie in The Conjuring series would be a Back to the Future Part II affair that showed how they’d faked their entire careers. But failing that, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga remain eminently watchable, and director Michael Chaves, now on his fourth film in the franchise, can reliably deliver jump scares and spooky atmosphere. If you’re after some fleeting frights on a Friday night, you could do a lot worse. But you could do a lot better, too.
