What is The Seduction season 1 about?
Adapted from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’s classic French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, albeit rather loosely, this six-part historical drama follows Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil (Anamaria Vartolomei), the villianess of the source material, as a young woman in 18th century PAris as she learns to love, lose, and plot merciless revenge on the path to becoming the steely, ruthless society doyenne we know from other adaptations. So, yes, technically this is a prequel.

Anamaria Vartolomei (Mickey 17) is Madame Isabelle de Merteuil; Noée Abita is Madame de Tourvel; Fantine Harduin (Happy End) is Cécile de Volanges; Vincent Lacoste (Along Came Love) is Valmont; and Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) is Valmont’s aunt, Rosemonde.

Why we’re excited about The Seduction season 1
We love costume dramas, and the source material here is one of the absolute best. All those pressed desires and hidden longings concealed beneath Regency finery, the dirty dealing and arguing about honour. We just cannot get enough.
Stephen Frears’ 1988 adaptation, Dangerous Liaisons, with John Malkovich, Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Keanu Reeves, is however one of the greatest costume dramas of all time, so that’s going to be hard to beat. Hopefully this new take can chart its own path, and give us a new angle on a bona fide classic.
