How to watch The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox in New Zealand

One of the most scandalous trials of the century comes to the screen. Again.

A decade after she was finally exonerated in the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation, wrongfully convicted American student Amanda Knox is getting the biopic treatment.

How to watch The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox in New Zealand

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is streaming in New Zealand exclusively on Disney+ from August 20, 2025, with a double episode premiere, followed by the remaining six episodes dropping weekly.

What is The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox about?

You no doubt have some recollection of the actual events, and there’s a handy Wikipedia article if you need a refresher. But in brief: in 2009, 20-year-old Amanda Knox and her Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were convicted of the 2007 murder of Knox’s roommate, Meredith Kercher. As it eventuated, they were innocent—but Knox spent four years in prison before the truth emerged.

This new eight-part miniseries tells the whole sordid tale: the murder, the staggeringly shoddy investigation, the trials, and the rabid media circus that followed (and really, with this series as evidence, continues to this day).

Why we’re excited about The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox

Well, it’s certainly a fascinating piece of recent legal history, and an international incident to boot. It does feel a little prurient though, doesn’t it? But you’d hope that, seeing as how Knox has suffered directly from the attention of the true crime industry, this doesn’t go down the morbid and macabre route.

The other issue is that this is pretty well turned earth. There have been a ton of books, articles, documentaries and feature films about the case already. Hopefully this offers some genuine insight, but we could be in for a pretty standard rehashing of events.
