What is Tucci in Italy about?
Exactly what it says! Following on from 2021’s Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, Tucci in Italy is, well, a bit more of the same. Taking in Tuscany, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Abruzzo, and Lazio, the acclaimed character actor will guide us through the history, culture, and—most importantly—cuisine of each region, much as his performance in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones guided him to an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2009.
Now that’s a hell of a a stretch. Stretchier perhaps than some of the hand made pasta that Tucci, who made his big screen debut in John Huston’s Prizzi’s Honour all the way back in 1985, may encounter on his travels. But this is simply a travel show hosted by the urbane and welcoming Stanley Tucci, and there’s only so many things you can say about that.
But we should point out that Tucci is no slouch in the culinary department, having been hand-picked by King Charles to plan a menu for an upcoming soiree celebrating Anglo-Italian relations. Presumably you have to know when you’re about to get tapped for that sort of thing. He’s also authored four cook books.
