Real Steel
Rated (M), contains violence
Father-son story with a kick-ass futuristic, robot-boxing backdrop. Go the boys. Says Dom Corry in the Flicks review: “This movie is aimed at kids (more so than I had anticipated) and it’s hard to imagine them not having a grand ol’ time, especially during the plentiful scenes of bonding between Hugh Jackman’s character’s estranged son (played by Jake Lloyd lookalike Dakota Goyo) and Atom, the sparring robot they train to be a promising fighter.”
Monte Carlo
Rated (PG)
For the girls and for the tween to teens – about a group of young friends (stars of Wizards of Waverly Place and Gossip Girl) who get mistaken for British heiresses on a trip to France.
Johnny English Reborn
Rated (PG), contains low level violence
Mr Bean as James Bond. It’s got gadgets and (mildly) violent fighting for the boys, international settings and hopefully enough laughs for the parents.
Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World
Rated (PG), contains violence
The fourth in the Spy Kids series with the added novelty of ‘scratch n’ sniff’ cards which don’t work very well. Says Andrew Hedley in the Flicks review: “Fairly routine fare, even for kids, and aside from cool gadgets it’s just a bit dull”. There’s Jessica Alba for Dad though.

The Smurfs
Rated (G)
These little blue critters, created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo in 1958, have stood the test of time – great for kids who ordinarily would be demanding Alvin & the Chipmunks and for parents who enjoy seeing their childhood favourites bastardised.

Zookeeper
Rated (PG), contains low level violence
Think Night at the Museum at a zoo. Animals break their code of silence to reach out to lonely zoopkeeper Griffin (Kevin James, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry). Low-brow, infantile and cliche if you believe the critics.
Also showing but on low rotation at cinemas is Jim Carrey in Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
