Supergirl: New Zealand trailer and release date
She’s definitely not a boy scout.

Superman’s tearaway cousin once again gets to strut her stuff on the big screen in her first feature film since 1984.
When is Supergirl being released in New Zealand?
Supergirl is screening exclusively in New Zealand cinemas from June 25, 2026.
What is Supergirl about?
Why, Supergirl, of course!
But maybe not the Supergirl you’re used to. Here, Kara ZZor-El, to use her Kryptonian name, is adrift, coping with massive amounts of PTSD by drinking herself into oblivion on a regular basis, and struggling to live up to the example set by her heroic cousin.
She gets her chance when a young girl asks her to help avenge the cruel murder of her father. Now, revenge is rarely a heroic goal, by and large, but our Supergirl here has a bit of a chip on her shoulder, so we might just see a lot more brutal violence than we usually get from her counterpart.
The cast of Supergirl
Milly Alcock is Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl; Matthias Schoenaerts is Krem of the Yellow Hills, our villain; Eve Ridley is Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien girl who recruits Supergirl on her quest to avenge her father’s murder; David Krumholtz is Zor-El, Supergirl’s father; Emily Beecham is Alura In-Ze: Supergirl’s mother; Jason Momoa is Lobo, an alien mercenary and bounty hunter, and just about the most perfect piece of casting in recent memory; Ferdinand Kingsley is Ruthye’s father, Elias Knoll; and David Corenswet reprises his role as Superman.

Why we’re excited about Supergirl
James Gunn’s cinematic DC Universe is shaping up nicely, and this looks like another fine addition to the pantheon, lightly reinventing the central heroine while cleaving to the elements that make her unique. Director Craig Gillespie is an old hand at this sort of thing, having directed Disney’s Cruella and the Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya, so we’re in excellent hands here. Plus, Lobo’s in it; that should keep the fanboys happy.
