Transformers One trailer and release date – New Zealand
They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result. On a completely unrelated note, there’s a new Transformers movie coming out. But, to be fair, this is a bit different to last seven, being both animated and clearly an action comedy aimed at the younger crowd.
When is Transformers One being released in New Zealand?
Transformers One hits New Zealand cinemas on September 26.
What is Transformers One about?
Set waaaaaay before the now familiar Autobot vs Decepticon war that underpins the whole franchise, Transformers One gives us a look at the formative years of Autobot Commander Optimus Prime and Decepticon Leader Megatron, detailing how the pair, once best buds, had a falling out that resulted in a clash lasting millions of years and spanning galaxies.
Now, there’s a chance this is based in some extant Transformers lore, but the sheer volume of material makes it hard to judge for the layman.
The cast of Transformers One
Chris Hemsworth, soon to be seen behind a honking great fake nose in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, voices Optimus Prime, at first known as Orion Pax. Brian Tyree Henry of Atlanta is Megatron, aka D16. Scarlett Johansson is Elita-1, Keegan-Michael Key is fan fave Bumblebee, Laurence Fishburne is Alpha Trion, Jon Hamm is Sentinel Prime, and bug-eyed legend Steve Buscemi is lending his larynx to the film’s yet-to-be-named villain.

Why we’re excited about Transformers One
Hmm. Well, the last two mooted reboots kinda crashed and burned, with both Bumblebee and the more recent Transformers: Rise of the Beasts both underperforming. But this at least looks like it has a sense of humour, and the complete lack of human characters is interesting. Cautious optimism (or perhaps that should be Optimusism) strikes us as the correct attitude to adopt.
