Weekend box office: Jurassic World is king of the castle

J.A. Bayona’s dino-sequel opened to some tepid reviews, including a 2-star write-up from Flicks’ Tony Stamp, and couldn’t match the $2.345,458 scratched up on Jurassic World‘s opening weekend in 2015.  No need to push the panic button just yet, though – that’s in keeping with the US, where Fallen Kingdom is Universal’s second-biggest opening weekend ever (after its predecessor), with grosses increasing as the weekend went on – a studio’s dream.

1. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom $1,756,622 (Universal)
2. Ocean’s 8 $334,411 (Roadshow)
3. Tag $156,973 (Warner Bros.)
4. Race 3 $88,888 (Forum Films)
5. Deadpool 2 $82,578 (Fox)
6. The Leisure Seeker $73,364 (eOne)
7. Solo: A Star Wars Story $70,086 (Walt Disney)
8. Hereditary $68,874  (Studiocanal)
9. Tea With The Dames $57,872 (Transmission)
