When is The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping being released in the UK?
Are you hungry for more games?

Apparently part of the prize pack when you win The Hunger Games is your own origin story or something, because now Haymitch Abernathy, the mentor to Katniss Everdeen previously played by Woody Harrelson, is getting one.
When is The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping being released in the UK?
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is screening exclusively in UK cinemas from November 20, 2026. What’s insane is that’s only 18 months—almost to the day—since the book was published. Talk about a quick turn around time!
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
What is The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping about?
Based on the novel by (who else?) Suzanne Collins, and brought to us by franchise mainstays Francis Lawrence (directing) and Billy Ray (writing), The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping takes place 24 years before the original The Hunger Games. A young Haymitch Abernathy has to fight for his life in the titular gladiatorial death match, probably learning some lessons about freedom and the importance of resisting tyranny.
Along the way, we meet a few familiar characters in their formative years, including undercover rebel Plutarch Heavensbee, formerly played by the late and great Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Joseph Zada is Haymitch Abernathy; Whitney Peak is Lenore Dove Baird, his girlfriend; Mckenna Grace is Maysilee Donner, another Tribute; Jesse Plemons is Plutarch Heavensbee, and man, that is some good casting. Also: Kelvin Harrison Jr. is Beetee Latier; Maya Hawke is Wiress; Lili Taylor is Mags Flanagan; Ben Wang is Wyatt Callow; Ralph Fiennes is President Snow; plus there’s Molly McCann, Iona Bell, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Glenn Close, and Billy Porter.

Well, more of an announcement, really.
Why we’re excited about The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
With the caveat that it’s always worth side-eyeing prequels, The Hunger Games’ answer to “What happened to Character X before we first met them?” seems to always be “Just the most awful, awful shit.” This is a must-see just based on the cast alone.
