A trio of desperate suburban moms decide that being good... More never got them anywhere, and rob a supermarket in order to get a little cash to help them and their families out. Unfortunately, the supermarket is already the territory of a local gang, and the women soon find themselves in hot water.

Mo Money, Mo Problems

The women struggle to come up with the money they... More owe the gang -- which, in this case, means robbing yet again. Meanwhile, Annie's fight for custody takes a major hit, Beth tries to navigate life as a single parent and Ruby's concerns for Sara's health escalate.

Beth, Annie and Ruby bite off more than they can... More chew when they agree to help Rio smuggle contraband. Ruby deals with a so-called family friend from her church and Annie prepares for a visit with a social worker that could help determine the fate of her custody battle with Greg.

Atom Bomb

Beth comes home to a surprise guest and is forced... More to confess to Ruby and Annie that she asked Rio if they could continue working for him. Meanwhile, Beth throws Kenny an elaborate birthday party, which unexpectedly leads the women to offer Rio a business proposition. Ruby's employment at the diner is threatened by a disgruntled teenage customer and Greg gives Annie the benefit of the doubt when she comes up with a creative solution for dealing with some bullies from Sadie's school.

Taking Care of Business

With Dean back in the house, and her criminal activities... More expanding, Beth struggles to keep her new business separate from her home life. When Sadie goes on a trip, Annie's loneliness leads her to an ill-advised one-night stand. Ruby doubles down on her lies to Stan. FBI Agent Jim Turner follows up on Boomer's tip about the women.

A View from the Top

Overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work their new enterprise... More demands, the ladies decide to outsource. While their business flourishes, the women's personal lives spiral: Dean confronts Beth about her association with Rio, Stan discovers Ruby's been lying to him about her employment at the diner, and Annie's conscience catches up with her.

Special Sauce

Business is booming and the women are living large, but... More a threat from one of their employees reminds them how violent Rio can be when pushed and threatens everything they've been working toward. Meanwhile, Beth and Ruby both enjoy the shifting dynamics in their respective marriages. Boomer carries out a malicious plot against Annie that puts her fight for custody in jeopardy.

Rio’s feeling the heat from the FBI investigation, so he... More abruptly shuts down operations, cutting off Beth, Ruby, and Annie's money supply. Their attempt to go back to being ordinary housewives is short-lived when Mary Pat puts the financial squeeze on them -- forcing the three women to commit another heist.

Summer of the Shark

Rio asks the women to complete a seemingly simple job... More so he can get the operation up and running, but Beth, Ruby, and Annie fear there may be more to the task than meets the eye. As the ladies’ long-simmering tensions with the gang leader boil over, Ruby learns that Sara has risen to the top of the transplant list.

Fearing for their lives, the ladies scramble to try to... More take down Rio. A kidney becomes available for Sara but Ruby and Stan don’t have the money to pay for it. The three women hatch a plan that will solve both problems – one that involves returning to the scene of their first crime.

These characters are so charismatic, it makes the horrifying situations they’re stuck in even more depressing, so much so that you long to see them on any other type of show.

As is, it’s more of a dark comedy that can’t be dark enough to earn the drama or sharp enough to work as a comedy. It tries to be everything, but moves too quickly between genres to fit into a 44-minute cut.

Generally more than watchable thanks to a trio of leading ladies--Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman--who appear to be having a tremendous time playing funny, badass characters who are the focus of the show and not just wives or girlfriends.

Good Girls also operates like a character-driven family drama, the more tension-building aspects of the plot sometimes feels like they’re coming at you too fast.

It feels like there’s a built-in shelf life for Good Girls, but watching these frazzled moms use their hard-won problem-solving skills to get out of scrapes is a fun caper while it lasts.

Good Girls doesn’t always find the balance, but thanks to remarkable performances from its leads and a daring streak of risky storytelling, it’s a welcome addition to the procedural-heavy world of network drama.
