Marie (1985)

Sissy Spacek (Badlands) leads this biopic from director Roger Donaldson (Sleeping Dogs), playing Marie Ragghianti, a political appointee who risks her job and her life to expose corruption.

Ragghianti, a former beauty queen, single mother, and domestic violence survivor, finds herself in danger once more when she uncovers a bribery scandal in her job as head of the Tennessee Board of Pardons and Paroles. Based on the book, Marie: A True Story, by Peter Maas (Serpico), with a screenplay by John Briley (Gandhi), Marie also stars Jeff Daniels and Morgan Freeman.

Law & Order actor Fred Dalton Thompson was also Ragghianti's real-life lawyer, and plays himself in the film.
