Unfaithfully Yours

Preston Sturges brings his incomparable screwball sensibilities to this black romantic comedy, starring Rex Harrison as a symphony conductor plotting revenge against his wife, who he believes has been cheating. 

Before leaving for a brief European trip, symphony conductor Sir Alfred De Carter (Harrison) casually asks his stuffy brother-in-law August (singer Rudy Valée) to look out for his wife, Daphne (Linda Darnell, My Darling Clementine), during his absence. August hires a private investigator to keep tabs on her, but when the private eye's report suggests Daphne might have been canoodling with his secretary, Sir Alfred begins to scheme.

Described by film critic Pauline Kael as 'one of the most sophisticated slapstick comedies ever made', Unfaithfully Yours was remade in 1984 with Dudley Moore and Nastassja Kinski in the lead roles -- but the remake received far less favourable reviews.
