How to watch Christy in New Zealand
There’s drama inside the ring and out in this sports biopic.

Sydney Sweeney is real-life boxing champion Christy Martin in this sporting biopic from Animal Kingdom director David Michôd and co-writer Mirrah Foulkes.
How to watch Christy in New Zealand
Christy is screening exclusively in New Zealand cinemas from January 8, 2026.
What is Christy about?
Christy follows our titular heroine’s trailblazing rise in women’s boxing in the 1990s. It also explores both her struggles with her sexuality and the abuse she suffers at the hands of her domineering and violent husband and manager, James. Both come to a head when James attempts to kill her after she demands a divorce, which might count as a spoiler except for the fact that it actually happened.
The cast of Christy
Sydney Sweeney is Christy Salters Martin; Ben Foster is James V. Martin, Christy’s abusive husband and coach; Merritt Wever is Joyce Salters, Christy’s mother; Katy O’Brian is Lisa Holewyne, Christy’s biggest boxing rival; Ethan Embry is John Salters, Christy’s father; Coleman Pedigo is Randy Salters, Christy’s brother; Jess Gabor is Rosie Christy’s high school girlfriend; Chad L. Coleman is boxing promoter Don King; and Tony Cavalero is James Maloney.

Why we’re excited about Christy
Sydney Sweeney’s transformative performance has drawn strong praise—for crying out loud, she’s barely recognisable in the trailer! The biggest factor to consider here is how you feel about Sweeney, who seems to be absolutely speedrunning her moment in the spotlight. Fans will want to check this one out, for sure.
