How to watch Good Fortune in New Zealand

Good Fortune is screening exclusively in New Zealand cinemas from October 30, 2025.

What is Good Fortune about?

Lowly gig worker Arj can’t catch a break, juggling various jobs and struggling to keep his head above water. He’s living in his car when he’s visited by an honest-to-God (who doesn’t seem to be showing up, but you never know) angel – albeit a lowly one who has given up his wings for the chance to save a human soul (he’s normally tasked with encouraging people not to text and drive. Seeking to teach Arj that money doesn’t solve life’s problems (righto…) the angel, Gabriel, swaps his mind with that of tech multi-millionaire Jeff, a man who lives a life of utter excess and luxury, and we proceed from there. So, perhaps Wings of Desire meets Freaky Friday is the apt comparison here.

The cast of Good Fortune

Aziz Ansari is Arj, a struggling gig worker; Seth Rogen is the wealthy Jeff, who lives a life of hedonistic excess; Keanu Reeves is Gabriel, an angel; Sandra Oh is Martha, an angel who takes Gabriel’s wings; Stephen McKinley Henderson is Azrael, yet another angel; Keke Palmer is Elena, Arj’s co-worker; Penny Johnson Jerald ai Elena’s mother; and Sherry Cola is Linda.

Why we’re excited about Good Fortune

Keanu as an angel is a perfect piece of casting, and looks like it’ll showcase the actor’s quirky Zen charm wonderfully. Also, Ansari is a gifted comic talent whose small screen direction in Master of None should translate well here. The actual story is nothing too fresh, it seems, but the talent on screen should more than make up for it.
