How to watch The Abandons in New Zealand

It’s Lena Headey vs Gillian Anderson in Netflix’s new Western drama.

Two determined women are set against each other in the perilous wilderness of 1850s Oregon (technically Washington Territory at the time, history fans) in this new historical epic.

How to watch The Abandons in New Zealand

The Abandons is streaming in New Zealand exclusively on Netflix from December 4, with all seven episodes dropping at once.

What is The Abandons about?

Created by Kurt Sutter of Sons of Anarchy and Mayans M.C. fame, The Abandons sees two determined women set on a collision course in 19th century Oregon. One, Fiona Nolan, is a devout Catholic woman leading a group of outcasts and orphans. The other is Constance Van Ness, widowed matriarch of a powerful family of European nobles, who have designs on Fiona’s modest parcel of pristine land. And the best part is they’re played by genre legends Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Gillian Anderson (needs no introduction!).

The cast of The Abandons

Lena Headey is Fiona Nolan; Gillian Anderson is Constance Van Ness; Lucas Till is Garret Van Ness; Aisling Franciosi is Trisha Van Ness; Nick Robinson is Elias Teller; Diana Silvers is Dahlia Teller; Lamar Johnson is Albert Mason; and Natalia del Riego is Lilla Belle.

Why we’re excited about The Abandons

As a staunch defender of Sons of Anarchy (well, except for that final season…) and an avowed fan of westerns, this is very much my jam. The inclusion of two acting powerhouses like Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson is just icing on the cake. And for all his love of shock and excess, Kurt Sutter’s take on the Old West probably isn’t as boorish and reductive as Taylor Sheridan’s, so that’s a plus. But in deference to the King of Flyover Country, this probably wouldn’t have even seen the light of day without the sprawling Yellowstone franchise’s massive success.
