How to watch The Home in New Zealand

Pete Davidson’s new gig is getting old fast in this new horror flick from the creator of The Purge.

How to watch The Home in New Zealand

The Home is screening in New Zealand cinemas from July 25, 2025.

What is The Home about?

Excellent question! It’s a bit of a mystery, but we do know that SNL veteran Davidson is playing Max, a guy who gets slapped with a community service order for reasons that are unclear at this juncture. In his case, that means working at the local creepy old nursing home (if there are nursing homes that aren’t creepy, I’ve never seen one).

It soon becomes clear that the titular home harbours some dark secrets, and it definitely has something to do with the forbidden fourth floor, where the “special needs” residents are kept. And it may have something to do with his own troubled childhood, in ways we’re sure will become apparent.

The Purge‘s James Monaco is directing, as well as co-writing with Adam Cantor. Fun little nugget of trivia: both Monaco and Davidson grew up on Staten Island.

The cast of The Home

Pete Davidson is Max, with Jagger Nelson as the young Max; plus John Glover, Bruce Altman, Ethan Phillips, Matthew Miniero, Linder Sutton, Nathalie Schmidt, and Marilee Talkington in support.

Why we’re excited about The Home

Well, let’s face it: old people are creepy as hell. No offence, old people: I hope to be one of you some day. But nursing homes are their own special horror, aren’t they? Warehouses for the elderly, keeping the aged and infirm safely out of sight, lest they remind us of our own inevitable fates. There’s plenty of unsettling terror to be milked from that, if you know what you’re doing. Monaco certainly does, so we are well and truly on board with this one.
