Get your D20 ready: the Dungeons & Dragons movie rolls its first trailer

With tabletop gaming more popular than ever, there’s never been a better time to release a Dungeons & Dragons movie. Check out the first trailer.

Whether you’ve played D&D with your own merry band of adventurers, tortured said band as a merciless DM, listened to mega-hit podcast Critical Role, saw their Prime Video series The Legend of Vox Machina, or simply caught a whiff of D&D via Stranger Things, you’ve no doubt come across the iconic fantasy tabletop game.

At long last, a major blockbuster motion picture of the game is upon us with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, in Aotearoa cinemas on 2 March 2023. Check out the trailer below.

The film stars Chris Pine (Wonder Woman), Michelle Rodriguez (F9), Hugh Grant (Paddington 2), Sophia Lillis (It) and Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton) in critical rolls… ahem, roles. Perhaps more excitingly, the film’s written and directed by duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who delivered one of the best board game films ever with 2018’s Game Night.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.”
