The Mandalorian & Grogu: New Zealand trailer and release date

Mando and the magic midget are back!

The biggest small screen success of the ever-expanding Star Wars Galaxy jumps to light speed and the big screen, as everyone’s favourite non-Spaghetti Western bounty hunter and his pint-sized protégé embark on their biggest adventure yet.

How to watch The Mandalorian & Grogu in New Zealand

The Mandalorian & Grogu is screening in New Zealand cinemas from May 21, 2026. So you’ve got a few parsecs. It’s a lock for Disney+ some time after that, though.

What is The Mandalorian & Grogu about?

The further adventures of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu, forevermore known as Baby Yoda, as they help the New Republic battle various former Imperial warlords in the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War. Which tells us nothing. But we do know that this was put into production instead of season four, so there’s a fair chance some of the story elements we were gonna see there will show up here.

The cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu

Pedro Pascal is Din Djarin, AKA the Mandalorian, or Mando to his friends; the great Sigourney Weaver is Colonel Ward, leader of the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers and former Rebel Alliance pilot; Jeremy Allen White is Rotta the Hutt, or at least his voice is; and Jonny Coyne is an as yet unnamed Imperial Warlord. They insist on putting Grogu on the cast list, but to be clear: it’s a puppet. It’s like crediting a coffee cup.

Why we’re excited about The Mandalorian & Grogu

The Mandalorian is a heaping helping of fun when it’s not getting mired in years of continuity from the Clone Wars cartoons. That may be the barrier to entry here for wider audiences. If director Jon Favreau, who’s co-writing with Dave Filoni, delivers an accessible space adventure, we are five from five. If they expect people not reared on the animated series to care about darksabers and Mandalorian internal politics, this thing may be hitting streaming sooner than we think.
