How to watch Fargo season 5 in New Zealand

And so we return to the wintry climes of Minnesota for more foul doings in the flyover states. The first four seasons of Noah Hawley’s riff on the Coen Brothers’ classic crime caper were all bangers, so we’re keen to see what season five has to offer.

What is Fargo season 5 about?

Adapted from—or, rather, expanding on—the revered, awards-laden 1996 film by Joel and Ethan Coen, Fargo is an anthology series, each season taking place in a different midwestern location and era. All beginning with a title assuring us that “This is a true story.” It isn’t, of course (and neither was the OG movie) but that’s all part of the fun.

Previous seasons have followed the exploits of Billy Bob Thornton’s malicious hitman and Martin Freeman’s put-upon office schlub (season one); Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons’ hapless married couple, who accidentally kill a local crime boss’ son (season two); the avaricious machinations of Ewan McGregor as both a corrupt probation officer and his more successful brother (season three); and a brewing turf war between Kansas City mob bosses Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman (season four). In true Coen caper style, every season plays out with plenty of plot twists, backstabbing, black humour, and murder.

As for season five? Your guess is as good as ours. The plot has been teased with two cryptic questions: when is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours? Other than that, we got nothin’.

What are the critics saying about Fargo season 5?

Nothing yet! But given how universally acclaimed prior seasons have been, we can’t see this latest caper bucking the trend.
