How to watch Alien: Earth in New Zealand

The xenomorphs are finally on our doorstep in this new horror series from Fargo’s Noah Hawley.

Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley is taking a crack at the Alien universe with this earthbound prequel series. Our expectations are very high.

How to watch Alien: Earth in New Zealand

Alien: Earth is streaming in New Zealand exclusively on Disney+ from August 17, 2025, with a double episode premiere, followed by the next six episodes dropping weekly.

What is Alien: Earth about?

Set some years before Ridley Scott’s original film and, as the title indicates, set on our own tiny blue orb, Alien: Earth kicks off when the space vessel Maginot crash-lands on Earth, bringing with it a menagerie of terrible extraterrestrial beasties who waste no time in running amok. As the body count rises, a team is sent in to deal with the crisis, comprised mostly of (presumably) expendable synthetic people—androids like Ash and Bishop. Among them is Wendy, a unique being created when the mind of a terminally ill young girl was uploaded into a synthetic body.

The cast of Alien: Earth

Sydney Chandler is Wendy, the first human/synthetic hybrid; Timothy Olyphant is Kirsh, her synthetic mentor; Alex Lawther human soldier is CJ “Hermit”; Samuel Blenkin is Boy Kavalier, the CEO of the Prodigy Corporation; Essie Davis is Dame Silvia; Adarsh Gourav is Slightly, a synthetic; Kit Young is Tootles, another synthetic; David Rysdahl is Arthur; Babou Ceesay is Morrow; Jonathan Ajayi is Smee; Erana James is Curly; Lily Newmark is Nibs; Diêm Camille is Siberian;  and much to my delight, UK comedy legend Adrian Edmondson is Atom Eins.

Why we’re excited about Alien: Earth

Following on from the smash hit Alien: Romulus and acknowledging the Alien lore cropping up in the imminent Predator: Badlands, it seems our favourite chest-bursters are having A Moment, and we’re here for it. This is such a rich universe of horror, but it’s rarely explored in interesting ways. If anyone can steer the franchise into uncharted and unsettling territory, it’s Noah Hawley.
