How to watch Freakier Friday in New Zealand

Jamie Lee and Lindsay Lo (go with it) are back in a new take on the old body switcheroo.

Remember the old Disney body swap classic Freaky Friday, starring Jodie Foster? Remember how it was remade in 2003 with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis? That version’s getting a sequel—and much to our surprise, it’s the seventh film in the franchise.

How to watch Freakier Friday in New Zealand.

Freakier Friday is screening in New Zealand cinemas from August 7, 2025.

What is Freakier Friday about?

Body swapping!

Decades after they switched bodies via the medium of magical fortune cookies, mum (now grandmother) Tess and daughter (now mother) Anna Coleman find themselves switching again. But it’s way more complicated this time, as Anna’s daughter, Harper, and stepdaughter, Lily, are also in the mix. Exactly who winds up in which body we leave as an exercise for those with enough string and sticky notes to hand. Hijinks presumably ensue and lessons are no doubt learned.

The cast of Freakier Friday

Oscar-winning scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis is Tess Coleman; comeback kid Lindsay Lohan is Anna Coleman; Julia Butters is Harper Coleman; Sophia Hammons is Lily Davies; The Good Place‘s Manny Jacinto is Eric Davies, Anna’s new fiancé and Lily’s father; Rosalind Chao is Pei-Pei, the Chinese restaurant owner from the 2003 film; Lucille Soong is her mother; Chad Michael Murray is Jake, Anna’s former boyfriend from the original film; Mark Harmon is Ryan, Tess’ husband; Ryan Malgarini is Harry Coleman, Anna’s younger brother; and Christina Vidal Mitchell and Haley Hudson are Maddie and Peg, Anna’s best friends.

Why we’re excited about Freakier Friday

Well, with that many movies so far, the franchise must be doing something right. Plus, Jamie Lee Curtis has an Oscar on her mantel now, and Lindsay Lohan is going through a bit of a renaissance. This feels like her first foray into the mainstream since her wilderness years, terrible Netflix rom-coms notwithstanding. It may not be great, but we hope it is.
