How to watch Trainwreck: the Astroworld Tragedy in New Zealand

It’s all right there in the title.

Less than four years after 10 people were killed when the crowd stampeded at the 2121 Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas, headlined by rapper Travis Scott, comes this documentary unpacking the tragedy.

Trainwreck: the Astroworld Tragedy is now streaming in New Zealand exclusively on Netflix. They used to make movies with guys like Scorsese.

What is Trainwreck: the Astroworld Tragedy about?

Well, it’s pretty straight forward: directors Yemi Bamiro and Hannah Poulter pick at the barely-healed scab of the 2021 tragedy, hoping to come up with some answers and, ideally, about 80 minutes of usable taking head and archival footage. Judging by the running time, they’ve absolutely nailed the second part. Presumably they’ll be looking to game out the chain of events and apportion some blame, though it’s worth noting that nobody was ever indicted.

Why we’re excited about Trainwreck: the Astroworld Tragedy

Well, it certainly earns its title. And those who are curious about what other scabrous and fecund things cling to the bottom of the barrel will be happy to know that this is the first part of an eight episode documentary series with a provocatively scattershot approach to subject matter.

Connoisseurs of civilisational decline can look forward to Trainwreck: Mayor of Mayhem, which charts the career of a crack-snorting mayor; Trainwreck: Poop Cruise, about the time the cruise ship Carnival Sunrise became flooded with sewage; and Trainwreck: Balloon Boy, which…is something about a hoax.
