NZ box office report: Minecraft rules and Sinners outperforms its own opening week

Our weekly guide to what’s happening at the Aotearoa box office – thanks to Numero
To absolutely no one’s surprise, A Minecraft Movie is still smashing it at the box office, number one again in its fourth week of release as it closes in on $10M in ticket sales. Sinners sits in second place, and mirroring the strong impact of word of mouth about Ryan Coogler’s horror internationally, defies box office gravity to outperform its opening week. The vampire pic went neck and neck with The Accountant 2, which was just barely relegated to third spot by the narrowest of margins—the two films separated by literally the price of one movie ticket. The 4K remaster of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith fittingly takes out fourth spot.
Meanwhile, while Tinā is no longer in the top four this week, the film’s box office total is starting to look like it could overtake Whale Rider ($6,496,371) and move into fifth spot on the all-time NZ film rankings.
