Wish (April 3)
A classic, vaguely medieval fairytale with songs and talking animals, Wish kinda came and went from cinemas without too much excitement. It might find more appreciation amongst its old-school Disney musical pals, on the studio’s streaming service. Ariana DeBose voices our hero, whose generous wish that everyone’s wishes might come true causes chaos—in the form of a squishy, anarchic little star landing on earth and taking her request very literally.
The Greatest Hits (April 12)
We all have a mental playlist of the songs that changed our lives: the ballad that got us through our first breakup, the banger our parents always played in the car, etc. In this tuneful rom-com, Lucy Boynton’s character discovers that certain songs can literally send her back in time, reuniting her with memories of her last boyfriend (our new Superman David Corenswet). Meanwhile, a promising new love interest crops up in her future…but will she be too busy vibing out to her nostalgic tracks to notice?
The Veil: Miniseries (April 30)
Lesser actors than Elisabeth Moss have been humiliatingly felled by a shonky British accent—but we’re sure she’s up to the task here, playing a veteran MI6 agent. Her spy character will flit from Istanbul to Paris to London, flanked by Yumna Marwan and a ruthless CIA officer (Josh Charles), in what production company FX have described as “a potentially deadly game of truth and lies”. Creator Steven Knight is also responsible for Peaky Blinders and Taboo, so this generic-seeming new show has serious pedigree behind it.
