Laura and Massimo are still toxic as ever in the trailer for The Next 365 Days

Poland’s sexiest, silliest romance series is returning to Netflix for another questionable chapter of relationship drama.

Critical darlings they ain’t, but Poland’s 365 Days erotic thrillers certainly draw in a hungry and horny audience of Netflix subscribers. The first two films caused massive controversy and titillation with their Beauty and the Beast-inspired tales of gangster Massimo (Michele Morrone) and his caged love interest Laura (Anna-Maria Sieklucka).

The third film in this steamy trilogy, The Next 365 Days, arrives on Netflix on August 19. The brand new trailer below shows Laura seemingly torn between the masochistic Massimo and gardener romance with Nacho (Simone Susinna). “If you really love something, just let her go”, Nacho reasons: “if it comes back, she’s yours forever.” So again, yeah, pretty Beauty and The Beast with the Stockholm Syndrome vibes amped up to 11.

Barbara Bialowas and Tomasz Mandes write and direct the newest entry to this European Fifty Shades of Grey rip-off, jetting us to fab fashion shows, infinity pools, and clubs where Laura and her friends twirl on poles and balconies.

After being trapped by Massimo for a full year of reluctant romance, it seems she’s still trying to get in touch with herself, but might find her desires lead back to the vicious mobster. Much like in Twilight, the romantic results might just be based in the lesser of two evils than the promise of any healthy, happy relationship.

Flicks has published some hilarious and yet very different takes on the steamy Netflix franchise, with Travis Johnson absolutely roasting the sequel 365 Days: This Day. He describes the sex scenes as such: “there’s lots of thrusting and spreading, lots of heads bobbing between thighs and, for all the effort at framing the flesh just right, nothing actually erotic going on.”

On the other hand, Katie Parker published an article “in defense of” the original film’s much-criticised abusive romance, pointing out that most viewers are well aware of the difference between real-life violence and the movie’s kinky tomfoolery. Let’s just agree to disagree and hope that The Next 365 Days can improve upon its predecessors, delivering something less problematic and way more sexy.
